Agbebaku, who currently represents Owan West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, reportedly appealed to party stakeholders during a meeting, asking for forgiveness and support ahead of the next election cycle.

The Speaker was said to have acknowledged concerns raised by party members regarding his political ambitions and sought reconciliation with aggrieved leaders in the constituency.

However, party loyalists at the meeting reportedly rejected his plea, insisting that other aspirants should be given the opportunity to contest the seat. Some members argued that the constituency needed fresh representation and maintained that the APC should support candidates they believe are more acceptable to grassroots supporters.

The development highlights growing internal tensions within the APC in Edo State as political alignments and permutations ahead of future elections continue to intensify.

Agbebaku, who emerged Speaker despite political controversies surrounding party affiliations in the state assembly, has remained a significant figure in Edo politics.
