A political coalition advocating the return of former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that he will be on the ballot in the 2027 presidential election, despite the absence of a formal declaration from the former Nigerian leader.

The coalition’s convener made the assertion during a political gathering, expressing confidence that Jonathan would eventually accept calls to contest the presidency.

According to the group, consultations are ongoing across different regions of the country to persuade the former president to return to active politics and provide what they described as “experienced and stabilising leadership.”

The convener stated that the movement believes Jonathan remains widely accepted across political, ethnic and religious lines, insisting that many Nigerians are dissatisfied with the current political and economic situation in the country.

Although the coalition claimed Jonathan’s candidacy is certain, the former president has not publicly announced any intention to run for office in 2027.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, has largely maintained a low political profile since leaving office after losing the 2015 election.

His name, however, continues to surface in discussions surrounding possible opposition coalitions and consensus candidacies ahead of the next general election.

Political analysts say increasing speculation around Jonathan’s possible return reflects the growing realignments and uncertainty within Nigeria’s political space as parties and interest groups prepare for the 2027 contest.
