Bismarck Rewane, the Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, has stated that Nigeria is currently witnessing “growth without prosperity,” warning that many citizens are becoming poorer despite economic growth figures.

Rewane explained that while some macroeconomic indicators may show improvements, the benefits are not translating into better living conditions for ordinary Nigerians. According to him, rising inflation, unemployment, currency instability and the increasing cost of living continue to erode household incomes and purchasing power.

He noted that economic growth without corresponding improvements in welfare, job creation and productivity would only widen inequality and deepen poverty levels across the country. The economist stressed the need for policies that directly impact citizens through investments in production, infrastructure, social protection and private sector development.

Rewane also emphasized that sustainable economic reforms must focus on inclusive growth capable of improving real incomes and restoring confidence among businesses and consumers. He warned that without broad-based prosperity, economic expansion figures alone would not reflect the true condition of Nigerians.
