The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally positioned itself ahead of the 2027 general elections by zoning its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, a move widely seen as part of efforts to strengthen regional balance and broaden support across the country.

The development comes amid growing coalition talks within the opposition, as Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso publicly aligned themselves with the party’s convention and political direction.

Political observers say the decision could significantly reshape opposition politics ahead of 2027, especially as discussions continue over the possibility of a united front against the ruling party. The NDC leadership believes zoning the ticket to the South would promote inclusiveness, national unity and strategic political balance.

The alignment of Obi and Kwankwaso with the party has further fueled speculation about a broader coalition involving influential political blocs and grassroots movements across the country. Analysts note that such cooperation could strengthen opposition mobilisation and voter appeal ahead of the next presidential election.

The NDC has continued to attract politicians and supporters from different parties, positioning itself as a rapidly growing platform in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
