President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Nigerians are better off compared to citizens of Kenya, despite the current economic hardship facing the nation.
Speaking amid rising concerns over the cost of living, Tinubu acknowledged the impact of recent economic reforms, including high fuel prices, but insisted that the measures were necessary to stabilise the economy in the long run.
The President noted that while Nigerians are experiencing difficulties, the situation is comparatively more challenging in some other African countries, citing Kenya as an example.
Tinubu assured citizens that his administration is working to ease the burden through policy interventions aimed at improving economic growth, stabilising the currency, and boosting local production.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians criticising the comparison as insensitive given the prevailing hardship, while others argue that the reforms may yield positive results over time.
Economic analysts say the government’s policies, including subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments, have contributed to short-term pain but could potentially create long-term stability if properly managed.
