World Bank Downgrades Nigeria’s 2026 Economic Growth to 4.1%

The World Bank has revised down its economic growth projection for Nigeria, forecasting that the country’s economy will grow by an average of 4.1 percent in 2026.

The latest estimate represents a slight downgrade from the bank’s earlier projection in October 2025, when it predicted that Nigeria’s economy would expand by 4.4 percent in both 2026 and 2027.

According to the World Bank, the adjustment reflects evolving economic conditions, including persistent inflationary pressures, foreign exchange challenges, and uncertainties in the global economy.

Despite the downgrade, the bank noted that Nigeria’s growth outlook remains relatively stable, supported by ongoing reforms in key sectors and efforts to boost non-oil revenue.

Economic analysts say the revised forecast underscores the need for sustained policy implementation, particularly in areas such as fiscal discipline, exchange rate stability, and investment in infrastructure.

The new projection comes at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate economic reforms aimed at strengthening long-term growth while managing short-term challenges.
