Atiku Raises Alarm Over Rising Poverty in Nigeria

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep concern over rising poverty levels in Nigeria, following recent assessments by the World Bank.

Atiku stated that the global financial institution’s position confirms what many Nigerians are already experiencing, warning that poverty is increasing at an alarming rate under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his reaction, the former presidential candidate criticised the current economic conditions, noting that worsening living standards, high inflation, and rising costs of basic goods have continued to put pressure on citizens across the country.

He argued that urgent and effective policy measures are needed to address the situation, calling on the government to prioritise economic stability, job creation, and social welfare programmes.

The comments add to growing political debate over the state of the economy, as Nigerians continue to grapple with hardship linked to recent reforms and broader global economic challenges.

Government officials, however, maintain that ongoing policies are designed to stabilise the economy and deliver long-term benefits, despite the current difficulties being faced by citizens.
