The Niger State Government has directed all private schools across the state to suspend any planned resumption of academic activities, warning that defaulters will face strict sanctions.
The directive was issued by the state Ministry of Education following concerns over non-compliance with government-approved academic calendars and regulatory guidelines. Authorities said the move is aimed at ensuring uniformity, proper supervision and adherence to standards across both public and private educational institutions.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry cautioned proprietors of private schools against reopening without official clearance, stressing that the government would not hesitate to apply punitive measures, including fines, closure of schools and possible withdrawal of operating licences.
The government noted that some private schools had continued academic activities or fixed resumption dates without approval, a situation it described as unacceptable and capable of undermining educational planning in the state.
Parents and guardians were also advised to cooperate with the directive by ensuring that their wards do not attend schools that violate the order.
The Niger State Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining quality education and ensuring that all schools operate within established regulations in the interest of students, teachers and the wider society.
