Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a warning over continued attacks on Christians in Nigeria, expressing concern about rising violence and threats to religious freedom in the country.
In a statement, Netanyahu condemned the killings and persecution of Christian communities, describing the attacks as unacceptable and a violation of fundamental human rights. He called on the Nigerian authorities and the international community to take decisive action to protect vulnerable communities and hold perpetrators accountable.
The Israeli leader stressed the importance of safeguarding religious freedom and peaceful coexistence, noting that attacks based on faith undermine social stability and global peace. He also urged stronger international cooperation to address extremism and violence targeting religious groups.
Netanyahu’s comments come amid growing global concern over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, where religious leaders and civil society organisations have repeatedly raised the alarm over attacks on Christian communities, particularly in the northern and Middle Belt regions.
Nigerian authorities have maintained that efforts are ongoing to tackle insecurity across the country, while calling for support from international partners to combat terrorism, banditry and communal violence.
The statement has added to calls for renewed global attention on Nigeria’s security challenges and the protection of religious minorities.
