The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has announced the restoration of normal traffic flow on the Abuja–Lokoja Highway following a tense standoff between truck drivers and military personnel that caused a major blockade over the weekend.
According to the minister, the disruption occurred after a disagreement involving truck drivers and security operatives, leading to the obstruction of the busy highway and leaving motorists stranded for several hours.
Umahi said the situation has now been resolved through the intervention of relevant authorities, allowing free movement of vehicles along the corridor to resume.
He commended the patience of road users during the disruption and praised security agencies and transport unions for their cooperation in de-escalating the situation.
The Abuja–Lokoja Highway is a critical route linking the Federal Capital Territory to several states in the North-Central and Southern regions, and any disruption along the axis often has significant economic and security implications.
The minister assured Nigerians that the federal government remains committed to ensuring safety, smooth traffic flow, and continued rehabilitation works on major highways across the country.
