Ogun Court Remands 56-Year-Old Monarch, Sonola, Over Attempted Murder Charges

 

An Ogun State Magistrate Court has remanded a 56-year-old traditional ruler, identified as Sonola, in a correctional facility over alleged attempted murder.



The monarch was arraigned  before the court on charges bordering on attempted murder, unlawful assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred within the monarch’s domain, where he allegedly attacked the victim during a dispute, inflicting life-threatening injuries.

The prosecution told the court that the offence contravenes relevant sections of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, adding that investigations are still ongoing.

Sonola pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, the presiding magistrate declined to grant bail, citing the serious nature of the allegations and the need to allow proper investigation.

The court subsequently ordered that the monarch be remanded in a correctional centre pending further hearing and adjourned the case to [insert adjournment date if needed].

The development has sparked reactions within the community, as residents expressed shock over the involvement of a traditional ruler in such a grave allegation. Authorities have assured the public that the case will be handled in accordance with the law.
