Akpabio Urges Tinubu to Reconsider Police Withdrawal for Lawmakers

 Abuja, Nigeria – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the directive withdrawing police orderlies from members of the National Assembly, citing safety concerns.

Speaking on the matter, Akpabio warned that the withdrawal of police protection could put some lawmakers at risk, suggesting that “some lawmakers may not go home today” without adequate security.

The appeal comes amid ongoing debates over the security of public officials versus the broader issue of national safety, with critics questioning why such protections are extended to a few while ordinary Nigerians face persistent threats from banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism.

The presidency is yet to respond to Akpabio’s request, and it remains unclear whether the directive will be reconsidered.
