Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed strong skepticism over a new peace proposal from Iran, suggesting it is unlikely to be accepted in its current form.
Speaking to reporters and in a social media post, Trump said Tehran has “not yet paid a big enough price” for its past actions, casting doubt on the chances of reaching a deal.
The proposal—reportedly a multi-point plan transmitted through intermediaries—seeks to ease tensions and potentially end ongoing hostilities. However, key disagreements remain, particularly over Iran’s nuclear programme and conditions such as sanctions relief and control of strategic routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also signaled that military options have not been ruled out, warning that further strikes could be considered if Iran “misbehaves.”
Despite ongoing diplomatic contacts, the U.S. position appears firm: any agreement must meet its core security demands, especially preventing Iran from advancing nuclear capabilities. On the other hand, Iran insists on sanctions relief and broader concessions before making major commitments.
The situation underscores continued tensions between Washington and Tehran, with uncertainty still surrounding whether diplomacy or escalation will define the next phase of the conflict.
