The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged youths in Nigeria’s South-East to reject armed struggle and embrace peaceful engagement with the government.
Speaking on the need for stability in the region, Akpabio emphasized that sustainable development can only take place in an atmosphere of peace. He warned that violence and militancy undermine economic growth, discourage investment, and worsen insecurity.
His remarks come amid ongoing tensions in parts of the South-East, where activities linked to groups such as Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other armed actors have contributed to clashes with security forces and disruptions to daily life.
Akpabio called on community leaders, stakeholders, and youths to prioritize dialogue and lawful means of expressing grievances, noting that constructive engagement remains the most effective path to addressing concerns and achieving long-term progress.
The statement adds to broader calls by political leaders for de-escalation and renewed efforts toward peace and development in the region.
