‘I Never Said I Was Targeted for Elimination by US Airstrikes,’ Sheikh Gumi Debunks Viral Old Video

 Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that he said he was targeted for elimination by United States airstrikes, describing the reports as false and misleading.

Sheikh Gumi, in a clarification shared on his verified social media platforms, said the video being circulated is an old clip that has been taken out of context and deliberately misrepresented. He stressed that at no point did he claim that the United States planned to eliminate him through airstrikes.

“I never said I was targeted for elimination by US airstrikes,” the cleric stated, urging the public to disregard the viral interpretation of the video.

According to him, the resurfaced footage was from a past discussion where he spoke generally about security issues and international military operations, not about any personal threat against his life. He warned against the dangers of misinformation, especially content capable of inciting fear or misinforming the public.

The controversial clip has gained traction across social media platforms in recent days, sparking mixed reactions and renewed debates over Sheikh Gumi’s past comments on insecurity in Nigeria.

Sheikh Gumi called on Nigerians to verify information before sharing and appealed to media organisations and social media users to uphold responsible reporting standards.
