Politicians Orchestrating Insecurity to Stop Tinubu’s Re-election — Matawalle

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has alleged that some politicians are deliberately fuelling insecurity across the country as part of a plot to prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from securing re-election in 2027.

Matawalle made the claim while responding to calls by critics demanding his removal from office, describing such demands as politically motivated and aimed at distracting the current administration.

According to the former Zamfara State governor, the insecurity ravaging parts of the country is being weaponised by political actors who want to destabilise the government and erode public confidence ahead of the next general election.

He alleged that the same strategy was deployed against former President Goodluck Jonathan before the 2015 elections, when insecurity became a dominant narrative used to weaken the government of the day.

Matawalle further claimed that those behind the attacks on his person are linked to an ongoing investigation into individuals allegedly plotting to undermine the Tinubu administration. He said the pressure for his removal intensified after he began probing what he described as “unpatriotic elements” working against national security.

The minister also defended his record as governor of Zamfara State, particularly his controversial engagement with armed groups, insisting that the measures were peace initiatives aimed at saving lives rather than endorsing criminality.

He accused Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, of leading a smear campaign against him, insisting that such attacks were driven by political rivalry rather than facts.

Matawalle reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s security agenda, stating that the administration remains determined to confront insecurity despite attempts by political opponents to sabotage its efforts.

The allegation has continued to spark debate amid growing concerns over insecurity nationwide and rising political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
