Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is reportedly set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to emerging political reports, plans have been concluded for an imminent declaration rally, where Obi is expected to formally announce his defection to the ADC. Sources claim the rally will hold later this month in Abuja, with party leaders, supporters and political allies expected to attend.
Although no official confirmation has been issued by Obi or the ADC leadership, the reports have fueled intense political discussions, particularly among Labour Party supporters and opposition blocs exploring coalition options for 2027.
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, garnered massive youth support and significantly reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape. However, internal crises and leadership disputes within the Labour Party have continued to raise questions about his long-term political future within the party.
Political analysts say a move to the ADC could signal a broader opposition realignment, as several politicians across party lines are reportedly considering alternative platforms to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
