The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged 3,439 newly enlisted recruits of the Nigerian Army to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the core values of the service as they commence their military careers.
Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the charge while addressing the recruits at the passing-out parade marking the completion of their basic military training. He congratulated them on the successful completion of the rigorous training, describing the moment as the beginning of their journey as professional soldiers entrusted with the responsibility of defending the nation.
The Army chief reminded the recruits that they are joining the service at a critical time when the country is confronted with various security challenges, stressing that their conduct and commitment would contribute significantly to national security efforts.
He urged the new soldiers to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army, including integrity, loyalty, courage, selfless service, and respect for constituted authority. According to him, professionalism must guide their actions at all times, whether on operations, in barracks, or in their interactions with civilians.
The COAS also emphasized the importance of discipline, obedience to lawful commands, and continuous training, warning against acts of indiscipline, corruption, and misconduct that could undermine the credibility of the Army.
Lieutenant General Shaibu assured the recruits that the Nigerian Army would continue to prioritize their welfare, training, and operational readiness, while urging them to reciprocate with dedication, loyalty, and readiness to make sacrifices in the service of the country.
He concluded by congratulating the recruits once again and encouraged them to serve the nation with honor, courage, and commitment as they are deployed to various units across the country.
