Yenagoa, Nigeria — Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has ordered an autopsy to medically determine the cause of death of the state’s Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who died on Thursday at the age of 60.
In a statement issued by the state government, Governor Diri said the decision to conduct an autopsy was taken in the interest of transparency and clarity, given the high public office held by the deceased. He noted that the medical examination would help provide an accurate account of the circumstances surrounding Ewhrudjakpo’s death.
Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, a respected academic and politician, served as Deputy Governor since 2020 and was widely regarded as a key figure in the administration. His death has sent shockwaves across Bayelsa State, with political leaders, civil servants, and residents expressing deep sorrow.
