An angry mob on Tuesday reportedly assaulted and dragged a federal lawmaker from Zamfara State in Dansadau town over allegations of poor performance and neglect of his constituency.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when the lawmaker was confronted by youths who accused him of failing to deliver meaningful projects and attract development to the area despite spending years in office. The situation quickly escalated as the crowd turned violent, beating and dragging him before security operatives intervened.
Sources in the community claimed that residents had repeatedly complained about the absence of basic infrastructure and empowerment programmes, accusing the lawmaker of only resurfacing during election periods.
The lawmaker was said to have sustained injuries and was later rescued and taken to a safe location. Security agencies have since restored calm in the area, while an investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing.
As of the time of filing this report, the lawmaker has not issued an official statement, and the Zamfara State Police Command is yet to confirm details of the attack.
