Tanzania head coach, Manuel Gomandi, has revealed that his team has developed a specific tactical plan to contain Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash, while admitting that the Super Eagles’ overall attacking quality remains a major concern.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Gomandi acknowledged Osimhen’s reputation as one of Africa’s most dangerous forwards, noting that stopping the Napoli striker would be crucial to Tanzania’s chances of getting a positive result. According to him, the Taifa Stars have studied Nigeria’s style of play and are preparing defensive strategies aimed at limiting Osimhen’s movement and goal-scoring opportunities.
However, the Tanzanian coach cautioned that focusing solely on Osimhen could be risky, stressing that Nigeria possess multiple attacking options capable of punishing any lapse in concentration.
“Nigeria are not just about Osimhen,” Gomandi said. “They have quality players across the pitch, and if you pay too much attention to one player, others can hurt you. Our approach has to be disciplined and collective.”
