The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of officers of the Lagos State Task Force from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.

The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate withdrawal of officers of the Lagos State Task Force from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.

According to the directive, the decision is aimed at streamlining traffic management operations and reducing reported cases of conflict between motorists and task force officials. The police authorities noted that traffic enforcement responsibilities will now be handled strictly by designated units, particularly trained traffic personnel within the command.

The move follows growing public complaints over alleged harassment, extortion, and overlapping duties involving multiple agencies on Lagos roads. By removing the task force from traffic duties, the police say they intend to restore order, improve professionalism, and ensure better coordination in traffic control.

Residents and motorists have welcomed the development with cautious optimism, expressing hope that it will lead to more transparent and accountable enforcement on the roads.

However, the command reiterated that the task force remains active in other areas of law enforcement, including environmental and security operations, while urging the public to continue complying with traffic regulations to maintain order across the state.
