 Nyesom Wike has ordered the arrest of the developer linked to a building collapse in Abuja, as authorities intensify efforts to address structural safety violations in the capital.

Following the incident, Wike also directed that the land where the collapsed, reportedly unapproved structure stood be seized and repurposed for public use. The minister condemned the construction, describing it as illegal and a threat to public safety.

He warned that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would no longer tolerate violations of building regulations, stressing that developers must strictly adhere to approved plans and standards. According to him, any structure found to contravene regulations would face demolition, with owners held accountable.

The directive comes amid growing concerns over recurring building collapses in Nigeria, often linked to substandard materials, poor supervision, and lack of regulatory compliance. Authorities say stricter enforcement and penalties are necessary to prevent future tragedies.

Wike’s action signals a tougher stance by the FCTA on urban planning and construction practices, with a renewed focus on safeguarding lives and restoring order in the rapidly expanding city.
