Dangote made this known amid concerns over possible supply disruptions triggered by rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East—a region critical to global oil supply. He noted that the refinery, located in Lagos, is designed to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products and shield the country from external shocks.

According to him, the refinery can process up to 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it one of the largest single-train refineries in the world. This capacity positions Nigeria not only for self-sufficiency in fuel production but also as a potential major exporter to other African countries.

The development comes at a time when global energy markets are facing uncertainty due to instability in key oil-producing regions. Analysts say large-scale domestic refining, such as that provided by Dangote’s facility, could help stabilise fuel supply and prices within Nigeria and the broader African market.

Dangote also emphasized that the refinery’s operations would contribute to foreign exchange savings, job creation, and economic growth, while strengthening energy security across the continent.
