Peter Obi Could Win Without Party If Independent Candidacy Were Allowed — Akin Osuntokun

 Abuja, Nigeria — A former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Akin Osuntokun, has stated that Peter Obi would not require the backing of any political party to win an election if Nigeria’s constitution permitted independent candidacy.

Osuntokun made the remark while speaking on the evolving dynamics of Nigerian politics, arguing that Obi’s popularity and national appeal transcend party structures.

“Peter Obi wouldn’t need any political party if our constitution allowed independent candidacy, and he will defeat his opponents hands down,” Osuntokun said.

According to him, Obi’s political strength lies in his personal credibility, track record, and connection with ordinary Nigerians rather than traditional party machinery. He noted that the former Anambra State governor has built a strong followership driven largely by civic engagement and youth participation.
