A federal lawmaker has cautioned against calls for the disbandment of the Imo Tiger Base police unit, describing the campaign as a politically motivated move aimed at undermining the state government.
The legislator stated that the Tiger Base plays a critical role in maintaining security and combating crime across Imo State, particularly amid ongoing security challenges in the region. According to him, dismantling the unit would weaken law enforcement efforts and expose residents to increased insecurity.
He argued that rather than scrapping the Tiger Base, authorities should focus on reforms, oversight, and strengthening professionalism within the unit to ensure it operates within the law.
The lawmaker further alleged that some of the calls for disbandment were being driven by political interests seeking to discredit Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration, urging stakeholders to separate security concerns from partisan politics.
He called on the federal government and security agencies to resist pressure and instead prioritize the safety and stability of Imo State and the South-East region at large.
