Boxing personality and social media star Jake Paul has said he will take legal action against former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder following comments suggesting Paul’s upcoming fight with Anthony Joshua is “scripted.”
Wilder made the remarks while speaking with FightHubTV, questioning the legitimacy of the bout and pointing to the size difference between the fighters. “I think it’s scripted, because of the weight difference. This is the first time we’re seeing Paul against an active fighter,” Wilder said. He also referenced Paul’s previous bout with 58-year-old Mike Tyson, describing it as “all fun and games,” before adding, “Now you’re dealing with a real professional. We’ll see how it ends. Like I said, I think it’s scripted.”
Paul strongly rejected the claim and announced plans to pursue legal action. According to him, a cease-and-desist letter has already been sent to Wilder and his representatives.
“I gave them a cease-and-desist letter in their email for lying on my name, and then the lawsuit is coming right after because these people won’t stop lying,” Paul said. He added that he views the criticism as a backhanded compliment.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer also fired back personally at Wilder, attributing the comments to what he described as repeated punishment Wilder has taken in the ring during his career.
The exchange has added further attention and controversy to the proposed Paul–Joshua fight, which has already generated significant debate within the boxing community. Critics continue to question the competitive balance of the matchup, while supporters argue that Paul is taking a serious step by facing an active professional heavyweight.
As of the time of this report, Wilder has not responded to Paul’s threat of legal action.
