Popular Nollywood actress and producer, Ini Edo, is facing mounting criticism from a Christian umbrella body over the title of her newly released movie.
The Christian group has described the title as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith, warning that it could inflame religious sensitivities if left unaddressed. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the organisation demanded that the actress immediately change the movie’s title and issue a public apology.
According to the group, the choice of title amounts to an unfair portrayal of Christianity and questioned whether a similar approach would be taken if the subject involved another religion. “Can she do that to the other religion?” the group asked, insisting that religious beliefs should be treated with equal respect.
The body warned that failure to address the issue could deepen tensions and called on regulatory authorities in the film industry to intervene to prevent what it described as religious insensitivity.
